Magnificence of the Tsars Exhibition

Head over to the V&A for look at the sumptuous Magnificence of the Tsars Exhibition. The Victoria and Albert Museum will be displaying rare costumes worn by the Tsars as well as the uniforms of court officials from Imperial Russia.

Magnificence of the Tsars
The exhibition will show off ornately decorated costumes and uniforms, some of which have never been exhibited in Russia or abroad. The V&A show borrows many items from the Moscow Kremlin Museums, giving Britons the chance to get face to face with rare and lavish relics from Russian history.

The Emperors' old clothes
Highlights of the Magnificence of the Tsars exhibition include the gold and silver embellished wardrobe of Peter II, the boy emporor who ruled for just three years. Also on show will be the coronation uniforms of seven emperors, including that of Nicholas II, the last Russian Tsar who was executed following the Russian Revolution in 1917.

Great survivors
Starting in the 1720s and concluding with the wardrobe of Nicholas II, the Magnificence of the Tsars exhibition presents clothes that have survivied many wars and revolutions. A haunting echo of past times, the V&A show reveals the highly skilled craftmanship and changing fashions in Imperia Russia over two centuries.
