The themes of myth and reality will take centre stage in a stunning Babylon exhibition at British Museum. Featuring important loans from Paris and Berlin as well as pieces from the British Museum's own collection, the Babylon exhibition will focus on the fallen city's beautiful art as well as its enduring legacy.

Sources from ancient Babylon
The exhibition at British Museum will concentrate on the city of Babylon, now in modern day Iraq, under the rule of King Nebuchadnezzar. Some exhibits have never been seen in Britain beofre, and include glazed brick panels from the Ishtar Gate and Processional Way, and a tablet describing the New Year celebrations in the city. With over 100 such objects on display, this high profile show aims to give visitors a real taste of everyday Babylonian life and culture.

Myths retold
Despite the city's infamous fall many centuries ago, Babylonian myths have continued to have a profound influence on art and culture. The Babylon exhibition at British Museum will explore this impact alongside the original ancient sources. Visitors will definitely be drawn to William Blake's sumptuous Nebuchadnezzar and several Flemish and Dutch Tower of Babel paintings from the sixteenth century. Other famous myths and stories that will be explored include the Hanging Gardens, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Legacy
Alongside the eyecatching art work that spans two thousand years, the Babylon Exhibition at British Museum will also celebrate some of the incredible Babylonian achievements that are still with us today. Try to imagine life without the the 60 second minute and 60 minute hour and you'll begin to appreciate just how much we owe to the people of Babylon. Other massive contributions to the spheres of science and mathematics will also be explored and explained in the show.
