Monkey Opera tickets are available to see the highly acclaimed opera from The Gorillaz team of Blur’s Damon Albarn and top illustrator Jamie Hewlett. Adding a modern edge to a classic Chinese tale, Monkey Opera tickets will enable London audiences to enter into a magical world of animation, dance, acrobatics and song, as the tale of Monkey is laid out at the O2. Based on the traditional Chinese fable, Monkey Opera tickets will see Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn combine their artistic skill with Chen Shi-Zheng’s concept, direction and writing in one of the highlights of London’s cultural calendar.

The Monkey Opera is no ordinary opera, thanks to a huge cast full of incredible acrobats, dancers, martial artists and more who perform in front of mesmerising animation from Gorillaz and Tank Girl illustrator Jamie Hewlett. Damon Albarn is also sprinkling his magic over the show, composing the music especially for the Western audience and bringing Monkey, and India, to life via song.

The tale of Monkey sees the headstrong hero of the opera upsetting the mighty Buddha. To redeem himself, Monkey has to travel to India, assisted by a holy monk, to attempt to find the Holy Scriptures and bring them back to China. What follows is a captivating exploration, in which Monkey discovers spiritual enlightenment, friends and much, much more.

The Monkey Opera is conceived, written and directed by highly regarded theatre and opera director, Chen Shi-Zheng. Shi-Zheng also provides the lyrics for Damon Albarn’s impressive score, and with over seventy Chinese acrobats and martial artists, a large orchestra and characters like Pigsy, the White Skeleton Demon, The Dragon King and Spider Woman, Monkey Opera promises to be one of the best ways to spend an evening in London.
